Taking the Grunt Work Out of Grocery Shopping

A simple trip to the grocery store isn’t always so simple. Here are some shortcuts to help take the grunts and groans out of grocery shopping:

  • Before running to the store, plan your menu for the week. Save energy, time, and money by writing your shopping list on an envelope that also holds your coupons

  • Ask to have heavy items like melons and meat cut into smaller, lighter portions

  • Cut down chopping time at home by purchasing frozen pre-cut vegetables, packaged mixed greens for salads, shredded cheeses, and sliced meats and cold cuts

  • Ask if you can call in an order ahead of time and arrange to pick it up at the storefront

  • As you make out your shopping list, make a mental map of how the store is laid out. List your items in the general order of how you’ll go down the aisles

  • Even better, skip the trip altogether. If you live in an area where they’re available, take advantage of stores and online services that offer home delivery like www.FreshDirect.com and www.Peapod.com

When enjoying your next meal, savor the time you just saved!

Shop the sales weekly and plan your menus accordingly. Have the bagger put your groceries in the car for you. If possible, have a neighbor help take groceries in the house for you.

In Seattle there is also www.spud.com which offers local and organic delivery...much more healthy alternative than the amazon delivery etc.

Be sure you ask for help with carrying out your groceries, and let the person helping you load them in the car. This saves your strength to carry in and put away when you get home.
